Cuba grants license to Cuban American business

CUBA STANDARD — Miami businessman Hugo Cancio might just have become the first Cuban American to officially do business in Cuba: The Cuban government granted a license to a company owned by Cancio to operate in the island.

The government’s move — reportedly after rejecting Cancio’s application a year ago — comes as, in the wake of street protests on July 11, the Biden administration is adding sanctions against Cuba, rather than lifting them. The Cuban government accompanied its license for Cancio with a mini-charm offensive, calling on more Cubans living abroad to invest in Cuba.
