CUBA STANDARD — In one of the few instances of foreign direct investment in Cuba since the beginning of the pandemic, a family-owned beer brewer from the Netherlands formed a joint venture with a Cuban state company and began construction of a brewery in the Mariel Special Development Zone.

The joint venture of Swinkels Family Brewers with state company Cuba Ron SA, called Cervecería Cubana SA, is close to completion of a $100 million brewery at Mariel, which will supply up to 1 million hectoliters of Parranda-brand beer beginning in January or February, according to local media reports. Parranda will be sold in PET bottles of 500ml and 1.5 liters. Swinkels is the majority partner, holding 60% of the joint venture through its Spanish subsidiary.
